RHS Tardy Policy

Tardiness is defined as:

  • A student who is not in their classroom or assigned instructional area when the bell rings or as defined by the teacher.
  • Any student who is tardy by more than 30 minutes will be recorded as an unexcused absence for the period. (Education Code 48260 (a)).

Excused tardies will show as an "N" on the attendance page. All others will be shown as a "T" for unexcused tardy.

Cumulative Tardies: 

  • Students who receive an after school detention for every seven tardies they accumulate. 
  • Detentions will be held after school with Campus Safety Tuesday - Thursday 3:30-4:30 PM in room 483. 
  • Serving one after school detention will clear seven tardies and so on. 
  • Failure to serve an assigned after school detention can/will result in an In-House Suspension, along with still needing to serve the after school detention.  

Students arriving to school late, a parent/guardian may call the Attendance Office stipulating the reason for arriving late to school. Tardies will only be excused for valid reasons listed in the (Education Code 48205) as stated below:

  • A pupil may be excused from school for reasons including: illness, quarantine, medical appointments, attending an immediate family member's funeral, jury duty, and serving on a precinct board for an election.
