RHS Hall Pass Policy

Student Passes During Instructional Time

Classroom instructional time is valued and prioritized at Redlands High School.  The safety and protection of both students and teachers is also of utmost importance.  In order to facilitate both of these priorities, all staff members must use the Minga Hall Pass System as the authorized hall pass for students.  If at any time Minga is unavailable, a traditional blue RHS Hall Pass will be issued to the student.

Passes summoning students from a class:

  • Students should only be summoned from class for a valid educational purpose, or because their legal guardian has authorized them to leave campus.
  • A student may only be summoned from class using the Minga Hall Pass System.  Only the following groups may send passes to summon students from class:
    • Attendance Office
    • Safety Office
    • Health Office
    • Counseling Office (including Academic Case Carriers, Speech and School Psychologist)
    • Student Center (ROP, Career Center, Activities Director, Link Crew)
    • ASB Advisor
    • Athletic Director
    • Administration
    • English Language Support Teacher
  • No individual may summon a student from class other than those listed above.  Should a staff member not included on the list above need to remove a student from class for a valid educational purpose (such as Woodcock Johnson testing), the teacher must call the attendance office, and the attendance office will confirm that it is not your planning period.  The attendance office will create the Minga Pass for the student.
    • At no time should any teacher or staff member summon a student and be with them alone, and a student may never be summoned to a classroom during a teacher’s planning period.
      • Should any staff member have an urgent need to summon a student during their planning period, the staff member must create a Minga Pass for the student, and meet with them in the office.

Passes excusing tardiness:

  • Tardiness is only excused at RHS if the student has a valid tardy pass issued through Minga or a written pass from the Attendance Office.
  • Valid tardy passes through Minga when the student was working with a staff member for a valid educational purpose.
  • Only the following entities may issue a Minga pass to excuse a student’s tardiness:
    • Attendance Office
    • Safety Office
    • Health Office
    • Counseling Office (including Academic Case Carriers, Speech and School Psychologist)
    • Student Center (ROP, Career Center, Activities Director, Link Crew)
    • ASB Advisor
    • Athletic Director
    • Administration
    • English Language Support Teacher

Teacher-Issued Tardy Passes

All students must be excused promptly when the bell rings, to allow them to attend their next class on time.  The campus is very large, and often students must travel to and from the furthest corners on campus.  On the very rare occasion that a teacher causes a student to be late to their next class, the teacher must do the following:

Issuing Teacher

    • Issue a Minga Pass to the student.
    • The destination for the student will be “Class-South Campus” or “Class-North Campus”.

Receiving Teacher

    • The tardy student will enter and inform their teacher that they were tardy from their previous class, and that their teacher issued them a Minga Pass.
    • The student may show the pass to the teacher on their phone or Chromebook (it will show the name of the teacher who issued the pass) or the teacher may look it up on Minga Hall Pass
    • The receiving teacher needs to end the Minga Pass.

For the safety of all students and staff members, it is required that any perceived abuse of issuing student summons passes or student tardy passes be reported to the principal immediately, for further investigation.

Consequences for students on campus without a valid Minga pass:

  • 1st offense:  Safety officer escorts the student back to class.  Safety officer documents the first offense of violating the Hall Pass Policy as a warning.
  • 2nd offense:  Safety officer issues lunch detention, escorts student back to class.  Safety officer contacts parent.
  • 3rd offense:  Safety officer issues after-school campus beautification, escorts student back to class.  Administrator contacts parent, may issue further disciplinary action.
  • 4th+ offense:  Safety officer escorts student to their assigned assistant principal.
