Attendance Policies
FULL/PARTIAL DAY ABSENCE AND REPORTING/CLEARING A STUDENT ABSENCE
Please call our 24-Hour Attendance Line at: (909) 307-5511.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for notifying the Attendance Office to report absent reasons for their student within 48 hours. Failing to do so, will result in the student being marked truant. Excessive truancies and/or absences that are not cleared within a 48-hour period, will result in ineligibility to participate in dances, other extracurricular activities, and School Attendance and Review Team (SART) meetings.
The Attendance Office MUST be notified PRIOR to student leaving in order to excuse absence(s). Failing to get an off-campus MINGA pass for your student prior to them leaving will result in a truancy. Requests to have absences excused because students did not obtain an off-campus MINGA pass before leaving, even if done within 48 hours, will not be completed.
When calling please be prepared with:
- Parent/Guardian’s name and phone number
- Student’s first and last names (spell the last name please)
- Student’s grade
- Reason for the absence
- Date of the absence
All absences must be called in by a parent/guardian every day of the student’s absence prior to 3:00 pm. All absences called in prior to 3:00 pm will be processed the same day. Messages called in after 3:00 pm will be processed the next school day.
PERIOD ABSENCES:
If a student believes they were marked absent or tardy in error, they must speak directly with the teacher–either during class or via email–to resolve the issue. The attendance office cannot make any changes unless we receive confirmation from the teacher.
- Doctors/Dentist/Labs Notes - students may bring medical notes from their appointments to the attendance office to have full day and/or period absences cleared. When the student first arrives to campus for the day OR if a student receives a MINGA Off-Campus Pass and is returning back to campus after an appointment, a doctor’s note is required to be turned into the attendance office.
NOTE: Students who fail to bring in medical notes for their absences AND no parent/guardian call has been made to the attendance office within 48 hours to notify us of the absence will result in a truancy.
OFF-CAMPUS PASS POLICY:
Failure to do the following prior to student leaving campus could/will result in student being marked truant from missed periods. STUDENTS MAY NOT LEAVE CAMPUS FOR ANY REASON WITHOUT DOING THE FOLLOWING:
- PHONE CALL: Call the Attendance Office 909-307-5511 stipulating date, time student must leave, and reason for the excuse. The student will then be issued an Off-Campus Pass through their MINGA app. Once they have the digital pass they can leave at the requested time. Parents do not need to come into the office to check students out if a phone call has already been made to the Attendance Office and a MINGA pass has been issued.
PLAN AHEAD:
Please note that last minute phone calls to the Attendance Office to release your student(s) early from school may not be accomplished in an immediate time frame. In an effort to comply with an off-campus request, we need a one hour notice so that we can locate your student and have them ready to leave at the time you are requesting.
- If we are unable to answer your call right away, please keep in mind we may be on the other line and/or already assisting other students/parents. If this is the case, ALWAYS leave a detailed voicemail with your request and we will complete it within a timely manner.
NOTE: If we are unable to assist your request in the time frame you are requesting, you may come into the office to check out your student at the front desk.
EARLY RELEASE DURING STATE TESTING, AP TESTING AND FINALS:
Students who finish testing early and wish to be dismissed, will still need to follow our off-campus MINGA pass policy in order to have absences excused.
HEALTH SERVICES
Students who are ill, may go home with the consent of the Health Technician and after the Technician has contacted a parent or guardian listed on the Emergency Contacts. Parent contact will be made from the Health Office. No calls will be made from classrooms/teachers. Students going to the Health Office are required to check into class and have a MINGA pass created.
OR
Students who are not feeling well may have a parent/guardian call attendance and ask for an off campus pass due to the student being ill. Attendance will issue an off-campus pass through MINGA and the student will then be able to leave campus. A MINGA off-campus pass must be issued before the student leaves campus NOT after.
CALLER ID
Redlands High School's Attendance Office uses Caller ID for all incoming calls. This is how we verify that we are speaking to a parent. If a verified phone number does not show on Caller ID we will use alternate methods to authenticate the caller. If we cannot verify we are speaking with a parent/guardian, for all students' safety, all callers will be asked to call from a number listed in Aeries.
**Please be sure to update your contact information and preference in your Aeries Parent Portal regularly. You manage your own settings.
MAKE-UP WORK
Students who are absent MUST check with individual teachers via e-mail or teacher website for specific make-up work.Students whose absences have been marked as truant (as denoted by a “C” in their attendance record) will be granted make-up work at the teacher’s discretion. (RUSD AR 6154 Instruction: Homework/Makeup Work-Students who are absent from school due to truancies from class may be required to make up all work missed due to the absence. The teacher may allow full or partial credit for the work. Such a decision shall be at the discretion of the individual teacher.)
